About the event

Presented by the Brighton Arts and Culture Council (BACC) as part of the BACC Workshop Series.

Instructor: Mary McEwan

Ready to embrace the "beautiful chaos" of fluid media? This immersive workshop is designed for both seasoned artists and curious beginners eager to master the unpredictable. We are diving deep into the vibrant world of watercolour and alcohol ink, focusing exclusively on the unique challenges and rewards of working on Yupo.

Because Yupo is a non-porous surface, pigments don't soak in—they float, blend, and react in mesmerizing ways. You will learn to control—and occasionally surrender to—the fluid movement of ink and paint to create striking, high-contrast landscapes and seascapes.

What You’ll Learn

  • Surface Dynamics: Understand how watercolour and alcohol ink interact on synthetic surfaces.
